Subject Librarians of all the Departments

Introduction of Disciplinary Knowledge Service Center

To enhance the connection between the library and all the departments, we built the channel between “demand” and “guarantee” to help teachers, students to make full use of the resources of the library, and enable the library to know the demand of all the departments in time. Library of Beijing Institute of Technology set up the disciplinary knowledge service center in 2016, the aim of which is to serve for the teachers and research groups. Disciplinary service is of great importance of the research-oriented university library.

Subject Librarian System

The library selects librarians with higher quality as the subject librarians for each units (departments and disciplines) according to their working ability and knowledge background, and formulates the management assessment method of subject librarians. The subject librarians focus mainly providing various information for the corresponding units (departments, disciplines) and receive the supervision and evaluation from the units (departments and disciplines).

The units (Departments, Disciplines) should elect a teacher who is  enthusiastic about library and having a comprehensive understanding of the research work situation in the school (Department, discipline) as a library and intelligence professor, responsible for providing the research condition and the information demand for the library and corporate with the subject librarians about some relevant research works.

Subject librarians should establish direct link with the corresponding faculties to exchange the information on a regular basis or casually.

Duties of the Subject librarian

To deeply understand the teaching, research and developing situation and be familiar with the distribution of the literature resources, provide the teachers and students of all the departments and subjects with the training guidance of the use of library resources and services and shoulder the responsibility to host lectures and answer the consultation and gradually improve the information literacy of teachers and students. Meanwhile, timely publicize the library's new resources and services.

To seek the suggestions of the readers and information demands, provide the teachers in relevant departments and disciplines, postgraduates and students with counseling services. Readers can consult with the subject librarians through telephone, e-mail or face to face consultation, and the library consultants are ought to answer the questions in time.

To collect and collate the collection of network resources and public network resources, compile and update the readers’ reference materials in relevant subjects, including the subject service page, resource use guidance. Through a variety of channels to promote the library resources and services to improve the efficiency of literature resources usage, so that readers will be more concerned about the library construction.

To get the opinions and suggestions from the teachers and students on the collection and service of the library, which can be served as the literature resources for the library to adjust the collection and strengthen the service relying on the trial, evaluation, collection of relevant disciplines of the literature resources.

To provide a special help of literature for the major task group / key laboratories and establish relationship with the academic leaders of the corresponding departments to provide scientific and technical literature documentations for them and to participate in their research activities on a regular basis, participate in and serve for the task groups.

To check the academic results of the corresponding faculties of the library to ensure its correctness.
