Borrow/Return

Rules

 Readers can check in and out the library materials via the self-machine which are located on the first, second and third floor. If the materials can't be borrowed or returned via the self-machine, please go to the "Reader Service Desk".

 The original password is same as your student number or employee ID number, please change your password as soon as possible (password should be all numbers, cannot contain any letters). The Campus ID Card and the password should be in safekeeping. If the card is lost, please report your loss in the personal account in time to avoid the loss or irregularities caused by the card loss or the password leak. Under this circumstance, the reader needs to take all the responsibility.

 Check-out materials should be under close scrutiny. If the reader finds any drawing, writing, cutting or other damages, please inform the staff of the conditions.

 The reader has the responsibility to return the check-out materials before the due date. In addition, the reader must timely check the due date from the personal account (log in "My Library" → "My Current Borrowing"). If the check-out materials are overdue, the reader will not be able to borrow books or renew any book in the account. Only after all the check-out materials are returned will they are permitted to borrow again.

 If the staff founds any damage of the returned books, the reader will be dealt with according to the relevant regulations.

 Readers can return the books on behalf of others, but is prohibited from borrowing books by using other's library card. Anyone who borrows the book by using other’s library card will be banned from borrowing books for 60 days. If the circumstances are particularly serious, the suspension will be delayed.

 Unified loan and return service of books and CDs is provided for readers on the Zhongguancun Campus and the Liangxiang Campus. The books and CDs that readers have borrowed can be returned to library on either campus.

(Notice: Books which are due before summer and winter holidays shall be returned on time. If the book is overdue, the holiday will be counted into the loan period. Books which are due in summer and winter holidays shall be extended automatically to the new term. For detail information, please pay attention to the relevant notice posed on the website and in the library.)  

 

Searching

  Collection information of a certain book can be retrieved by using the public library catalog, including the call number, location, loan status, etc. You can borrow the book only when it is available. Computers are available for readers to retrieve the public library catalog and inquire their borrowing information.

  Having obtained the collection information of the book, readers can go to the corresponding location, find the book according to the call number and pick it up.

  All books and some periodicals in the library are shelved according to Chinese Library Classification. Book shelves are arranged in an S-shaped way and the range of call numbers is labeled on two sides of the shelf. Readers can locate the books with the help of the labels.

 

Renewal

  Readers can log in "My Library", entering "My Current Borrowing" and choose to renew the books. You can also renew them at self-machine with your Campus ID Card.

 Readers shall renew the book within ten days before expiration. Students can renew one time, faculty can renew up to five times.

  Readers can renew the book for 30 days each time, overdue and reserved books cannot be renewed. 

 

Reservation

 After retrieval of the library catalog, when all duplications of the book you need have been lent out, you can reserve it online by logging in "My Library".

  Each book can only be reserved by one reader and each reader can reserve a maximum of 2 books.

 The book you reserved will be available for you to pick up at the "Reader Service Desk" on floor 1 for 3 days with your Library Card.

  Readers can log in "My Library" to check the loan status of the reserved book.

 The reservation is valid for 30 days, more than 30 days please make an appointment again. 

 

Commission

 Readers who need to borrow books from off-site library can submit a “invoice request” (to be initial signed) to the library at the "Reader Service Desk" on floor 1.

 Each book is limited to be commissioned by one reader and each reader can commission a maximum of 2 books.

 After the approval of application, library staffs are in charge of the transmission of books and CDs between campuses. You will be notified by e-mail when the commissioned book is sent to the library, please pick it up at the "Reader Service Desk" on floor 1. The book can be returned to library on any campus.

 During the commission application, the reader should ensure there is sufficient number of books to be borrowed and that there is no overdue books,  and have borrowed not more than 8 or 9 books already , otherwise the it will affect the borrowing of the commissioned book.

 The commission is valid for 30 days, more than 30 days please apply for commission again.

 The reader can also borrow books and CDs from other campusin libraries and return them to any campus library.

 

Compensations for Loss & Damage 

Readers who have carelessly lost or damaged document literature please go to the "Reader Service Desk" on floor 1 to compensate. Document literature includes books, periodicals, academic dissertations, microfiche, CDs, disks and various audio and video products, etc.

Readers shall compensate for loss and severe damage of document literature with a new book of the same version. If the book cannot be replaced, a reparation is applied according to the following:

 Books and periodicals in Chinese or foreign languages:

    Published before 1950: 20 times of the original price

    Published before or in the year of 1965: 10 times of the original price

 Photocopied books and periodicals in Chinese or foreign languages:

    Published before or in the year of 1985: 5 times of the original price

    Published after 1985: 3 times of the original price

 Original books and periodicals:

    Published before or in the year of 1985: 10 times of the original price,

    Published after 1985: 5 times of the original price,

  Bound volumes of journals and magazines: 5 times of the original price,

 Others: 3 times of the original price,

 Collections with bar codes and magnetic stripes: Additional claim: ¥1/volume for bar code, ¥1/volume for magnetic stripe.

Lost CDs attached with books shall be replaced. Readers should replace the CD as of original version. If it is not replaceable, while replicable duplications or backups of the CD can be found in the library, readers will be charged a fee of ¥20 for CD copy. Copy work such as CD burning, disc label restore, bar code restore will be done to restore the CD and put it into use.

Writing and staining are prohibited, otherwise a fine is charged: ¥0.5 for each stain for most books and ¥2 for each stain for expensive original books. In general, the fine will not be higher than 2 times of the original price, if it exceeds, please refer to regulation 2. Regulation 2 also applies for severe damages.

The reparation cannot be refunded once paid.

CDs attached with books are available for readers. You can retrieve the public library catalog for the CD you need. Book borrowing rules also apply to CD borrowing.

CDs attached with books are stored in the "CD jukebox" on floor 1.

Xu Teli Library, Liangxiang Campus

All CDs attached with books can be found in the "General Service Desk" on floor 1.

In addition, digital learning commons is newly equipped with some CDs for in-library use. Readers can watch them for free. Detailed way of watching the CDs is specified in the regulation of digital learning commons.

 

 Theses and Dissertations

Master's theses and Doctoral dissertations published after and in the year of 1984 are among the collections of the library, stored in the "Closed Stacks" in the north side on floor 3, Zhongguancun Campus Library. Readers can retrieve the public library catalog and pick them up at the "Closed Stacks". Theses and dissertations are for in-library use, not for circulation. 

 

Newspapers

Zhongguancun Campus Library

40-plus different kinds of newspapers are available in the newspaper reading room on floor 1, not for circulation. Most newspapers are removed semiannually and only 8 kinds of newspapers are among the collections: People's Daily (compact edition), Beijing Daily, Guangming Daily, China Education Daily, China Youth Daily, Wen Hui Bao (compact edition) and Liberation Army Daily (compact edition). You can retrieve the public library catalog if you want to consult newspapers in previous years and pick them up at the "Closed Stacks" in the north side on floor 3. All newspapers are for in-library use, not for circulation.

Xu Teli Library, Liangxiang Campus

20-plus different kinds of newspapers are available in the newspaper and journal reading room on floor 2, open frame reading.

 

Journals & Periodicals

Zhongguancun Campus Library

1000-plus kinds of current Chinese periodicals and over 100 kinds of current original periodicals in foreign languages are available in the periodical reading room on floor 4 and the leisure area on floor 1, not for circulation. Back Issues of periodicals are stored in the "Closed Stacks" in the north side on floor 3. Readers can retrieve the public library catalog for information about back issues and pick them up at the "Closed Stacks". All periodicals are for in-library use, not borrowed.

Xu Teli Library, Liangxiang Campus

500-plus kinds of Chinese periodicals are now available in the newspaper and journal reading room on floor 2, open frame reading.

 

Sci-Tech Reports

The Four Major U.S. Government Sci-Tech Reports (AD, PB, NASA, DOE) before 1989 are available in the "Closed Stacks" in the north side on floor 3, Zhongguancun Campus Library. Readers can retrieve the public library catalog and pick them up at the "Closed Stacks". The reports are for in-library use, not borrowed.

 

National & Military Standards

National & Military Standards of the library are stored in the "Closed Stacks" in the north side on floor 3, Zhongguancun Campus Library. Readers can retrieve the public library catalog and pick them up at the "Closed Stacks". The standards are for in-library use, not for circulation.
